MER-C to Bring Violence Cases May 22 to ICC
Jakarta, MINA – Humanitarian Medical Emergency Rescue – Committee (MER-C) is planning to bring violence that took place during the 22 May Action in front of Bawaslu Building to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The action that took place since Tuesday to Thursday was carried out by supporters of Candidate Vice President number 02 Prabowo Subianto, then infiltrated by a third party and ended with chaos.
MER-C Presidium Member, Dr. Joserizal Jurnalis said, his institution had enough experience dealing with matters related to violence against humanity to international institutions.
“We have enough experience dealing with cases like this. For example Mavi Marmara case which then dragged Israeli Armed Forces Chief of Staff to the ICC, “he said.
When asked why he brought the case internationally, Joserizal said that humanity belongs to everyone, not to certain parties.
“If it done nationally, where do you go? Humanity is universal, not only Indonesian people, not belonging to a particular tribe, but it crosses the nation, so its support is universal, “he said.
MER-C Legal Team, he said, had a number of evidence and witnesses that ready to be released if its needed, such as several bullets used, including bullets taken from the bodies of victims in 22 May Action.
Technically, the ICC only handles large cases such as genocide and war crimes. However, Joserizal did not want to comment further.
“That’s technical. I am not a legal person, then MER-C Legal Team will handle it. That’s technical. We only reveal the facts, “he said. (TL/Sj/R04)
