GRAND MUFTI REMINDS MUSLIMS OF ZAKAT AL-FITR

Riyadh, 25 Ramadan 1436/12 July 2015 (MINA) –  Zakat Al-Fitr is obligatory on all Muslims and should be given to the poor before the Eid prayer, Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh has said.

“The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) has imposed on Muslims to pay Zakat Al-Fitr at the end of the holy month, There is great wisdom in this charity because it enables the economically less fortunate to enjoy Eid,” he said.

The grand mufti made this statement during the Friday sermon at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh, Arab News  reports as quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA).

He also called on Muslims to refer to Allah the Almighty, repent and stay away from sins.

“The last 10 days of Ramadan are most auspicious and Muslims can get their past sins erased by repenting and pledging never to do them again,” he said.

“The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said  Zakat Al-Fitr of Ramadan is one saa of dates or one saa of barley for a slave and free, male and female, young and old

Muslims, and should be handed over before the prayers,” the grand mufti said.

He called on Muslims to reinforce their fasting by beholding the tongue from speaking nonsense, to distance oneself from vice, drugs and liquor and stay away from threatening anybody. (T/Imt/R03)
