Ankara, 18 Syawwal 1437/ 23 July 2016 (MINA) – The UAE and former Fatah leader Mohamed Dahlan have negative tendencies towards Turkey, a leader in the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has said.

In statements to Al-Resalah Net, Ahmet Varol stressed that Dahlan used to meet with the followers of the US-based Turkish opponent Fethullah Gulen.

He described Gulen’s group as hostile to the democratic process in Turkey and accused them of resorting to violence to seize control of parliament without elections, Memo reported.

The AKP leader pointed out there is no concrete and reliable evidence of Dahlan’s involvement in the failed coup attempt, “but the [Turkish] state is continuing with its investigation, and we will not hesitate to punish and hold accountable those who were involved” in harming our country.

Varol added that the Turkish people responded in a prompt and direct manner to all attempted attacks on their democracy, and moved to protect legitimacy.

He said that the Turkish people do not know much about Dahlan and his hostile policy against the region’s people. (T/P002/R07)
