PATTANI ULEMA ENCOURAGES YOUNG MUSLIM GENERATIONS TO BE SCIENTISTS
Pattani, 18 Shafar 1436/11 December 2014 (MINA) – Pattani Islamic committee in southern Thailand, encouraged young Muslim generations to keep improving their education quality in order to be scientists who was useful for wide community.
“The number of Muslims in Pattani continue to increase recently. They are now around two million people. They still need to improve knowledge about both Islam and science from scholar to doctor level in various disciplines,” said Pattani Islamic committee chairman, Dr. Ahmadkamae Waemusor at the Indonesia and Thailand Muslim Brotherhood dialogue in Pattani, southern Thailand, Tuesday afternoon on Des 2.
He along with Pattani Islamic committee supported the young scholars in Pattani to develop their religious knowledge to realize noble, prosperous and united scientists community.
They applied some programs such as improvement of Islamic school curriculum quality, teenagers and mothers courses, rising education levels at home and abroad, Islamic finance, Hajj and Umrah maintenance, and the mosque management.
“We also need for the development of Al-Qur’an memorizing program and journalism training for the media preaching,” he said.
Pattani Islamic committee and Ma’had At-Tarbiyyah Bandar Islamic Schools will cooperate with Al-Fatah Islamic Boarding School, Bogor and Lampung, Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) and Aqsha Working Group (AWG).
Regarding the relationship of Muslims with the Thai government, he said that their relationship was getting better. The government paid attention to the rights of its citizens, especially the Pattani Muslims.
Pattani Islamic committee play role as harmonizer and connector with the Thai Kingdom organization or Government and non Kingdom organization at home and abroad.
Waemusor added, the committee authorized to take care about the law and fatwa, the problem of Muslim households, zakat, endowments, and grants.
In central level, the Kingdom appoint ulema (Muslim Scholar) who was called Syaikhul Islam as a royal adviser of Islamic religious affairs.
The Thai Government or the Kingdom still maintain Hajj and Umrah affairs. “We expect the affairs is managed by Islamic institutions,” he said.
According to the records, Pattani Muslim population is currently around two million out of about 65 million Thai population. (L/P009/P3)
