King Salman Welcomes Palestinian Unity Move

Riyadh, MINA – Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman congratulated Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on concluding a reconciliation deal between Fatah and Hamas movements.

“This move affirming unity is the basic route that enables the Palestinian government to serve its people has satisfied Arabs and Muslims alike,” the King said during a telephone conversation with Abbas Thursday night. Abbas briefed the King on the salient features of the reconciliation deal that was signed in Cairo, IINA News reported.

King Salman also lauded efforts exerted by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi of Egypt and the Egyptian government in clinching the deal.

For his part, President Abbas thanked the King for the support the Palestinian people received from the government of Saudi Arabia since the era of the late King Abdulaziz till to date.

Earlier, the Saudi government welcomed the reconciliation deal co-signed by Fatah and Hamas. In a statement, an official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the Kingdom’s hope that this significant breakthrough would fulfill the aspirations of the Palestinian people for achieving national unity and ending the Palestinian internal division, in order to enable the Palestinian people to regain their legitimate rights in line with the international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.(R/R04/RS5)
