Palestinian Embassy, AWG Commemorate Nakba Day in Jakarta
Jakarta, 18 Sha’ban 1438/15 May 2017 (MINA) – May 15 is celebrated as the day in which half of the Palestinian population was expelled from their land by Israel in 1948. The Day of Catastrophe is officially marked every year all over the world on May 15 to mark the forcible eviction of Palestnians fom their homeland.
In Indonesia, the humanitarian agency Aqsa Working Group (AWG) in cooperation with the Palestinian Embassy in Jakarta held events to remember the Nakba. Activities include discussions, film screenings, signing, and salt water drinking as part of solidarity with hunger strike.observed by Palestinin prosoners israeli jails.
The Charge d’Affaires interim Palestinian Embassy to Indonesia Taher Hamad in his speech said before Israel occupied the land of Palestine, the Jerusalem (Al-Quds) was once known as peaceful land, where Christians, Jews and Muslims were living side by side for along time.
“The British expelled 800,000 Palestinians out of their own land, replacing them with Jews from various European countries. Then built the state of Israel. Since then, the Nakba day is remembered,” he said.
In addition, AWG Chairman Agus Sudarmadji also stressed the importance of engaging in solidarity actions for Palestinians in the current situation.
“This is proof that Muslim ummah do not sleep. We always follow the situation in Palestine every time, every day,” he said.
Meanwhile the Leader of Muslim unity Jamaah Muslimin (Hizbullah) Yakhsyallah Mansur who attended the event said it is an obligation for Muslim to love others Muslim as if they are one body.
