Sri Mulyani: Regional Elections Contribute to Economic Growth

Jakarta, MINA  – Indonesia Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati confirmed the holding of regional election (pilkada) in mid of 2018 can contribute to economic growth.

“People’s consumption is relatively positive and runs well despite the elections competition,” Sri Mulyani said here on Monday. Antaranews reproted.

Sri Mulyani explained that the election campaign period that started from the beginning of the year could contribute to household consumption and institution in the first and second quarters of 2018.

“Pilkada campaigns to take place in 171 districts, people will start spending in the first and second quarters,” she said.

He added that the implementation of the legislative and presidential elections in April 2019 also has a positive effect on domestic consumption.

In addition, household consumption will also be raised by the euphoria of the new year, chinese imlek celebration in the first quarter and Islamic Lebaran celebration in the second quarter.

Then, she added, Asia’s largest sport event, the Asian Games, can also contribute to household consumption in the third quarter.
