PALESTINE NEEDS INTERNATIONAL PROTECTION

Jakarta, 4 Rabi’ul Awwal 1437/15 December 2015 (MINA) – The permanent Observer of the Palestine to the United Nations Representative of the Palestine, Riyad Mansour said, his citizens need international protection until they get their independence.

“Palestinians need international protection until the Israeli occupation ends up,” he said at the International Conference on the Question of Jerusalem (Al-Quds) in Borobudur Hotel, Jakarta, Tuesday.

Riyad said, all Muslims are having responsibility to support Palestinian struggle including the United Nation Security Council (UNSC).

The observer hoped, the UNSC can take a real action to protect Palestinian people.

“We also expect the UNSC to do real action for the solution of Palestinian crisis,” he added.

The International Conference on the Question of Jerusalem aims seeking a solution to be brought to the UN General Assembly in New York.

The Conference entitled “Addressing the Present and Shaping the Future of Jerusalem” lasted for two days, followed by the Civil Society Forum on the Question of Palestine, December 16, 2015.

The Government of Indonesia in cooperation with the Palestine Committee of the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) hold the conference. Previously, Indonesia had also hosted a meeting of the Palestinian Committee of the United Nations, namely the UN Asian and Pacific Meeting on the Question of Palestine in Jakarta, 2009.

The meeting as a follow up of a similar meeting in Ankara, 12-13 May 2014, themed “Strengthening International Support for a Just and Lasting Solution of the Question of Jerusalem”.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the diplomatic community in Jakarta, as well as a number of international experts.(L/P008/R03)
