OIC Executive Committee to Hold Emergency Meeting in Istanbul Tuesday

The OIC aims to defend the national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of its member states.

Jeddah, MINA – An emergency meeting on the situation of Jerusalem will be held in Istanbul on Tuesday with the participation of foreign ministers of the executive committee’s members, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) said Sunday.

The meeting will send a unified message by the countries of the Islamic world to the international community demanding the Israeli occupation to respect the resolutions of the international legitimacy and the Geneva Conventions and all resolutions relating to the Palestinian issue, especially Jerusalem, KUNA reported, citing the OIC in a statement.

It will also discuss the support of Palestinians living in Jerusalem, and how to preserve Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem under the latest developments aimed at restricting the entry of Al-Aqsa Mosque, it added.

Israel had shut down A-Aqsa Mosque, denying Palestinian worshipers access to the holy site, in the aftermath of clashes that erupted between three Palestinians and two Israelis, which resulted in killing all five.

Al-Aqsa Mosque had been closed in front of worshipers for the first time in 48 years. (T/RS5/RS1)
