Jakarta, 29 Dzulqa’dah 1435/24 September 2014 (MINA) – Indonesia was elected as the guest of honor in the largest book fair in the world, the Frankfurt Book Fair (FBF) in 2015, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, according to Dharma Hutauruk, Chairman of the Central Executive of Books Compartment of Indonesian Publishers Association (IKAPI PP).

Dharma said, as a guest of honor, Indonesia will gain a broad portion and large space in the fair during the exhibition that has been going on since 500 years ago.

Representing Indonesia, Dharma continue, IKAPI will promote the country’s richness of social and cultural literacy.

“IKAPI will show the history of writing in Indonesia, from the traditional writing with bark of trees, the formation of IKAPI to the latest literacy development,” Dharma told Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) Jakarta, Friday (19/9) .

The Discourse on Indonesia as the guest of honor for 14 to 18 October 2015 exhibition was realized  after the agreement between Indonesian government  and the management of the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2013.

The Frankfurt Book Fair is the biggest book and media fair in the world – with around 7500 exhibitors from over 110 countries come  every year.

FBF is considered as the most important book fair in terms of transactions and international trade related copyrights and licenses.

Usually held in mid-October at the Frankfurt Trade Fair area in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The first three days of the exhibition is exclusively reserved for visitors who want to do business, while the last two days is for general visitors.

Since 1976, the program organized an FBF guest of honor (GOH), also known as the Country of Honour, in which the publishing industry will be a major focus during the event.

For Indonesia, this is a great opportunity to make the domestic industry, not only the publishing and printing industry, but other creative industries such as handicrafts and art, culinary, multimedia, traditional culture-based industries will be promoted.
