Humanitarian Aid of Food Flotilla For Myanmar Arrives in Yangon

Yangon, 12 Jumadil Awwal 1438/10 February 2017 (MINA) – The humanitarian aid transported by the Nautical Aliya vessel under the mission of “Food Flotilla for Myanmar” arrived in Thilawa Port, Yangon,  Myanmar, on Thursday afternoon (9/2).

Head of Mission of Food Flotilla for Myanmar, Datuk Seri Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahim symbolically handed over the humanitarian assistance consisting of toiletries such as soap, toothpaste and toothbrush to the Myanmar’s Minister of Social Welfare Win Myat Aye behalf of the Government of Myanmar.

Reporter of Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA), Nurhadis, who also participated in the Fleet Food Flotilla for Myanmar reported, Deputy Foreign Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican also attended the handover ceremony at the international terminal of the port.

Nurhadis also reported that humanitarian assistance irovided to the Rohingya Muslims was in the form of 10,000 packages of personal hygiene items, 12,000 boxes of mineral water, instant noodles and 300 tonnes of rice purchased in Myanmar.

Humanitarian relief goods amounting to 200 tons,  together with 300 tons that had been in Myanmar will be channeled to the Rohingya in Sittwe and Maundaw, Myanmar.

Deputy Chief of Food Flotilla Mission, Mohd. Azmi Abdul Hamid told MINA, his hope that the Myanmar government can work together and cooperate and ensure the aid is distributed to the Rohingya. people.

“I was conveying a message to the Minister Win Myat Aye my hope that we can work together well and hope that this humanitarian aid is really given to the refugees,” he said.

Aliya Nautical ship in the mission of the Food Flotilla for Myanmar will continue its journey to the Port of Chittagong, Bangladesh, on Friday afternoon which was originally scheduled for this evening, but cancelled due to low tide and the ship could not get out of harbour.

According to the plan, the humanitarian aid will be distributed to Rohingya refugee camps in Teknaf, Kutupalong and Nayapara, Bangladesh.

Food Flotilla for Myanmar is a humanitarian program for oppressed Rohingya Muslims is initiated by MAPIM and Kelab Putra 1 Malaysia, in collaboration with 31 NGOs from 11 countries made up of activists, health professionals, journalists, security, and the crew.

The mission is sailing through the Andaman Sea for back and forth voyage for approximately 20 days carrying 2,300 tonnes of aid such as rice, instant noodles, ready meals, toiletries, clothing, as well as blankets to be given to tens and even hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees in Sitwee and Teknaf on the border of Bangladesh.
