Brunei Duo to Participate in 58th International Tilawah Al-Quran Competition in KL

Bandar Seri Begawan, 24 Rajab 1437/0 May 2016 (MINA) – Bruneian duo Ak Mohd Adibul Amin Pg Hj Marjuki and Siti Huzzaimah Yadey Hj Rosli left Brunei International Airport Sunday to represent the sultanate at the 58th International Tilawah Al-Quran Competition which will take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Announced as this year’s National Al-Quran reading Musabaqah winners for the adult category, the pair will proceed to compete against international opponents from Islamic countries in Malaysia’s capital starting from May 2 to May 7, Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) reported, quoting Brunei Times.

In an interview, Ak Mohd Adibul Amin who will be competing for the eighth time in the annual competition said that he has been undergoing several Al-Quran reading workshops to prepare.

“Learning Al-Quran is very important and with competitions such as this, I hope it encourages Bruneians to read a lot of Al-Quran and understand it. This is in line with His Majesty’s titah in fostering Brunei Darussalam to become a Negara Zikir (Zikir Nation) and to produce a people who constantly uphold Al-Quran,” he said.

Having joined the competition two times in the past and achieving third place in 2014, Siti Huzzaimah Yadey echoed Ak Mohd Adibul Amin’s remarks in fostering Brunei into being a Zikir Nation by playing her part and continuing perfecting her Al-Quran recitation.

“From the competition, Insya Allah, I hope to gain experience (in Al-Quran recitation) and be better. In preparation the competition on top of the workshops, I also constantly watch YouTube videos of prominent qaris and qariahs to perfect my recitation as best as I can,” she said.

Accompanying the delegation on the trip was Coach Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yusop and head of delegation Senior Religious officer at Islamic Syiar Section Hassan Baha Hj Umar.

This year marks the 56th time the sultanate will participate in the annual competition. (T/R07/R01)
