BAN KI-MOON, EL-SISI DISCUSS MIDEAST PEACE IN NEW YORK

eef1ccf1-277e-4923-8e9c-672b4f08fa82New York, 14 Dhulhijjah 1436/28 September 2015 (MINA) – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the sidelines of the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York, WAM reported.

During the meeting, the UN chief appreciated Egypt’s leadership role in the Middle East peace process and underlined the need for rapid action in this area, both by advancing towards a Palestinian-Israeli peace agreement and reconciliation among the Palestinians.

He also alled on El-Sisi to exercise leadership in protecting human rights and human dignity in Egypt and in the region, according to IINA reports received by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA).

Within the same context, he hailed El-Sisi’s decision to pardon 100 prisoners, including journalists.

Furthermore, the UN chief expressed concern over the situation in Libya, saying that he is counting on Egypt’s support to get an agreement there and to support the future Government of National Accord. (T/P007/R04)
