“Advice for Leaders”, By Yakhsyallah Mansur

When Umar bin Abdul Aziz was appointed as a caliph, he wrote a letter to Imam Hasan Al-Basri for advice and telling the characteristics of a righteous leader.

So Imam Hasan Al-Basri wrote a letter to him, among its contents: “Know, O Amir Al-Mu’minin (leader), Allah actually makes a righteous leader to straighten out those who deviate, restore direction for the sinner, repair the broken, give strength to the weak, uphold justice for those who evil, awakening the negligent.

“A righteous leader, O Amir Al-Mu’minin is like a shepherd who is full of love for herding, who leads to a good shepherding place, keeps them away from the danger that threatens them, keeps them from wild animals, keeps them from the heat and rain.”

“A fair leader, O Amir Al-Mu’minin is like a responsible father, gently against her child, work for their children, teach them and take care of their needs and save for them after their death. ”

“A leader who is righteous, O Amir Al-Mu’minin is like a mother who is gentle towards her child, conceives and gives birth to her with difficulty, nurtures her when she is small, joins up late when her child wakes up at night and calms down when her child is calm. When she was suckling, the other time she releases it. She feels happy with his health and grieving with his pain. ”

“A fair leader, O Amirul Mu’minin is like a heart with a limb. The limbs will be good if the heart is good and the limbs will be damaged if the heart is damaged. ”

“A righteous leader, O Amir Al-Mu’minin is a person who stands between Allah and his servant, hears the word of God and makes it sound, knows God and introduces it, is led by God and leads them.”

Do not let you Amir Al-Mu’minin like a servant who is given the trust of Allah, like a slave who is given a trust by his employer about property and family, then wastes property and destroys the family, makes poor family members and disposes of the property. ”

“Know O Amir Al-Mu’minin that Allah actually sent down punishment in order to make people aware of gross and vile deeds, what if it is done by someone who must enforce it and Allah decreases qishash (punishment) as a guarantee of life for his servant, what if the leader commits murder who should uphold the qishash to them? ”

“Remember, Amir Al-Mu’minin will die and afterward, at least your friends and defenders will be there. Then, you should prepare provisions for death and life afterward, namely on a great day. “(AT/Sj)
