MER-C PROVIDES HEALTH CARE SERVICES TO THE BOAT PEOPLE IN BERAU
Jakarta, 9 Rabi’ul Awwal 1436/31 December 2014 (MINA) – Indonesian Humanitarian Institution, Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) sent medical team to provide health care services to 600 boat people in Berau Regency, East Kalimantan (KALTIM).
The mission was based on the request from Ministry of Maritime Affairs. The team consists of seven doctors and a logistics personnel.
They are Dr. H. Hadiki Habib (Internal Desease Specialist, Team Leader), Islamiyah Samaun (Logistics), Elisabeth Lilyanan Sarri (Dentist), Dian Fridayani (general practitioner), Tb Moch Aria Santika (general practitioner) , Kemas Muhammad H. Rizki (general practitioner), Riska Hastari (general practitioner), Akbar Septian (general practitioner).
The team was divided into two group.
Islamiyah Samaun, an personnel logistic said the Ministry of Maritime Affairs covered the transportation cost, while MER-C covered medicines.
“According to the request from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, the health service will be held for a week,” said Islamiyah Samaun.
Islamiyah hoped the humanitarian mission could run successfully and may Allah gave ease for the mission.
“Hopefully, the patients will be satisfied with what we do and may condition of the boat people goes well,” said Samaun.
Akbar Septian, a general practitioner stated the same expectation.
MER-C is a charitable organization engaging in humanitarian medical emergency services and have the mandatory, professional and neutral nature. MER-C’s goal is to provide medical care to victims of war, conflict, unrest, extraordinary events, and natural disasters at home and abroad. (L/P009/P3)
