Tunisian New President Stresses to Support Palestine
Tunis, MINA – Tunisian-elected President, Qais Said stresses to support Palestinian issues. It will be done at his first agenda on foreign affairs.
It was conveyed during his victory speech by winning 72.53% of vote in the second round Tunisia’s presidential election.
He promised to work in a number of issues fairly, especially Palestinian issue.
“Now is a historic phase, where Tunisia finished with a transition period, and the foreign agenda that must be done is to fight for Palestinian independence,” Said said in front of supporters, as quoted from Palestinian Information Center (Palinfo) on Monday, October 14.
The new Tunisian president hoped Palestinian flag could fly next to Tunisian flag.
Qais Said, a retired Professor of Law said that his first foreign visit would be to Algeria then he hoped to visit Libya by stressing that Tunisia would continue its role in international forum to support Palestine.
He also stressed normalization with Israeli invaders was a betrayal. His statement was confirmed during a historic debate with his rival, Nabil al-Qarawi, two days before presidential election.
Meanwhile, Islamic resistance movement in Gaza, Hamas expressed congratulations on the election of Dr. Said as President of Tunisia.
Hamas said that Said’s victory was a big support for Palestinian cause in a fair manner.
Hamas also expressed his appreciation to all Tunisians for the success of democracy which was an inspiration and example for, and this successful transition will increase stability and prosperity for Tunisia with the permission of Allah.
The Tunisian President’s election this time is the second time since 2011 uprising. The presidential election was held after the death of President Beji Caid Essebsi in July. (T/Sj/P2)
