OIC Urges Pakistan-India to Hold Peaceful Dialogue

Abu Dhabi, MINA – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) called on India and Pakistan to refrain from taking actions that will worsen the situation. The OIC also urged the two countries to resolve their differences through peaceful dialogue.

OIC Secretary General, Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen said the OIC followed with deep concern about bloodshed and violence against the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“The OIC calls on (India and Pakistan) to show self-control and resolve differences through peaceful means, in line with the resolution of international legitimacy,” Al-Othaimeen said as reported by the Anadolu Agency on Monday.

Recently, Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the problems between Pakistan and India must be resolved through dialogue and diplomatic channels, not through military means.

He said that as a democratic country, Pakistan believes in resolving problems with India through dialogue and diplomatic channels because diplomacy must be the first line of defense rather than military use.

“Peace is our priority and we do not want war with India. Pakistan is actively taking steps to improve and mitigate the situation,” Qureshi said.

Meanwhile, Indian Ambassador to Russia, Venkatesh Varma said, no country offered to resolve the crisis between India and Pakistan, and India would not accept an offer of mediation.

It is known by a number of countries, including Russia and Turkey, offering to mediate talks between India and Pakistan. Both Russia and Turkey will do that if asked by one of the parties.

Varma on the same occasion confirmed that India was not interested in increasing tensions with Pakistan. “India has clearly stated that they are not interested in escalating the situation. And the best way to achieve normal conditions in the region lies in Pakistan’s actions in the war against terrorist groups,” he said. (T/Sj/P2)
