Saudi Arabia Donates $1M for Palestinian Refugees in Syiria

UNRWA-memo-300x200.jpg" alt="unrwa-memo" width="300" height="200" />Damascus, 8 Rabi’ul Awwal 1438/8 December 2016 (MINA) – Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Bin Abdul-Aziz has donated $1 million for food assistance to be given to Palestinian refugees in Syria, Safa reported on Wednesday.

The news was announced by UNRWA Commissioner General Pierre Krähenbühl, who signed the donation agreement with Abdullah Al-Rabia, the advisor of the Saudi Royal Palace and the Supervisor of King Salman Centre for Development and Relief..

“I would like to express my deep thanks to King Salman Centre for Development and Relief for this generous donation, which makes Palestinian refugees harmed due to the destructive Syrian conflict feel that they are not forgotten, especially as the hard winter time is coming,” said Krähenbühl.

“We were much encouraged by this agreement with the Centre,” he added, “as we are always encouraged with the continuous partnership with Saudi Arabia, which enabled us to afford sensitive services for the Palestinian refugees in the whole region, including the emergency times.”

According to Al-Rabia, the Saudi government is looking forward to a long-term and successful partnership with UNRWA. “It is highly credible,” he explained. “We appreciate its serious role in assisting the Palestinian refugees.”

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the second largest donor to UNRWA. The agency depends entirely on voluntary donations from UN member states.(T/P008/R07)
