QATAR PLANS SEVEN-DAY EID AL-ADHA CELEBRATIONS

Doha, 8 Dzulhijjah 1435/2 October 2014 (MINA) – Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) has organised numerous activities and events for the seven-day Eid al-Adha festivity in the country, starting on October 4.

“Qatar has many attractions that can make it a preferred family destination for tourists and residents alike,” said Mashal Shahbik, Eid Celebrations in Qatar project manager at QTA.

“We look forward to showcasing these assets during the Eid al-Adha celebrations,” she explained, Gulf Times quoted by Mi’raj Isamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting, Wednesday.

“Eid al-Adha holiday will provide an opportunity to increase the number of tourists from neighbouring countries.”

The official stressed that the Eid events would comprise international shows, traditional dances and musical performances to suit all ages.

QTA has partnered with several tourist and cultural organisations, shopping centres and entertainment facilities in Qatar to develop the itinerary.

Katara – the Cultural Village, the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, Souq Waqif, Souq Al Rayyan, The Pearl-Qatar, Aqua Park, Qatar Shooting and Archery Association, Qatar Air Sports Committee, Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum, and Al Dosari Zoo and Game Reserve will host a number of activities and events.

QTA will hold free-of-charge shows in some of Qatar’s shopping malls such as City Center-Doha, Landmark, The Mall, Hyatt Plaza, Al Khor Mall and Lagoona for seven days between 4pm and 9.45pm. Shows will feature international and traditional acts.

A variety of shows are from the traditional sword dance “Arda”.

The “Arabs Got Talent” is expected to attract a large number of spectators while speed painter Nour Eddine Benouakas will inspire many.

Shahbik said they had completed the preparations and ready to kick off the festivity dubbed as “Eid Celebrations in Qatar”.

A reception of visitors at Hamad International Airport and Abu Samra border crossing was also organised.

Upon entry into Qatar, visitors  receive details of the festival and other promotional materials regarding various tourist attractions and entertainment programmes in the country.

She invited  visitors from other  countries  as well as citizens and residents of Qatar  to join the festivities.(T/P008/P3)
