Haifa, MINA – Israel’s Former Minister of Justice, Yossi Beilin, in an article published in the Hebrew newspaper, Israel Today said that any Israeli military operation against Hamas in the Gaza Strip would be a grave mistake.

“Every Israeli military battle against Hamas in the Gaza Strip will not add anything good to Israel, and Israel will not become stronger after that,” he said as quoted by the Palestinian Information Center (Palinfo), Saturday (5/10).

He continued, all that would happen at the end of the confrontation between the two sides, Israel and Hamas would return to the point of a long-term ceasefire, including stopping the firing of attacks.

He added the basic determinants of the Israeli government must then be concentrated on the achievements, a major power agreement with Iran is an achievement for Israel and its cancellation will be a threat to Israel.

The former Labor leader, the Meretz Party and a pioneer of the Oslo process with the Palestinian Authority also said that anyone who wants a settlement with Palestine must enter formal negotiations with President Mahmoud Abbas. (T/Ast/P2)
