Indonesian Swimmers Fail to Win Spots on Podium

Jakarta, MINA – The hopes that Indonesia’s seeded swimmer I Gede Siman Sidartawa would win a medal in men’s 50-meter back stroke were shattered on Monday evening after he finished fifth in the final at the Aquatic Center in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (20/8).

He finished with a time of 25.29 seconds in the final after finishing first in the qualifying round earlier in the day recording a faster time of 25.01 seconds.

According to asiangames2018.id, however, in the final Siman got off to a poor start, trailing China’s Xu Jiayu, who won his second gold medal of the 2018 Asian Games with a time of 24.75 seconds.

Meanwhile, Indonesian swimmer Triady Fauzi Sidiq competed in the final of the men’s 200-meter individual medley but failed to medal, despite recording a faster time than in the qualifying round. He recorded a time of 2.02.09 in the final, to finish sixth, beating his time of 2.03.32 in the qualifier.

The gold medal winner, China’s Shun Wang, finished with a time of 1.56.52, while the silver medal was won by Japan’s Kosuke Hagino who recorded a time of 1.56.75. China’s Qin Haiyang won the bronze with a time of 1.57.09.(L/R04/RS5)
