Indonesian Santri Day, ACT Distributes 100 Kg Tons of Rice

Jakarta, MINA – In commemoration of Indonesian National Santri Day (Student of Islamic Boarding School), the Humanitarian Agency Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) launches the “BRISI” movement (Rice for Indonesian Santri) in Jakarta on Tuesday, October 22.

Through the program, ACT is determined to distribute 100 kg of rice every month to 100 of Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia.

President of Global Islamic Philanthropy (GIP) Ahyudin said team in the regions on Wednesday (10/23) would start distributing the rice to Islamic boarding schools in 12 provinces in Indonesia, such as Banten, West Java, Java Central, Yogyakarta, Aceh, South Sumatra, Kalimantan, and even Jakarta.

“It has been prepared today and tomorrow it will be distributed,” said Ahyudin who is also the Chairman of ACT’s Board of Trustees at the launch of Rice for Santri Indonesia movement.

In addition to rice assistance, ACT has also launched the Waqf Food Barn program, Waqf Livestock Store and Retail Waqf. The three programs come from endowment donations and their management involves the surrounding community for the welfare of Islamic boarding schools’ students or Santri.

According to Ahyudin, Santri was important elements in the struggle for independence and development of Indonesia.

In history, there were a number of national warriors who were Santri such as, Jenderal Sudirman, KH. Ahmad Dahlan, KH. Hasyim Ash’ari and so on.

He said there were at least 5 million more santri in Indonesia. However, there are many Santri who must learn in terms of limitations, lack of food and clothing.

Therefore, to coincide with National Santri Day (October 22) ACT is determined to pay attention to the welfare of Santri and invite all elements of nation to take part in the program. (L/Sj/P2)
