EUROPEAN RECOGNITIONS OF PALESTINE CONSTRUCTIVE BUT NOT ENOUGH
Brussels, 8 Rabiul Awwal 1436/30 December 2014 (MINA) – The wave of European recognitions of Palestinian statehood are steps in the right direction but they are not enough, media advisor and expert in European affairs Housam Shaker said.
Houssam Shaker said in an exclusive interview with the PIC that the current European moves to recognize Palestine as in independent state carry a realistic dimension that is for the most part conditional and provisional, The Palestinian Infromation Center (PIC) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.
He stressed the need to win recognitions criminalizing the Israeli occupation and urging the Palestinian Authority to launch international moves impeaching Israel and its Judaization plots.
“We should make the most out of such opportunities by getting off the ground the files that do justice to the Palestinian people and their historical grievance,” he said. “This is not to be accomplished by giving rounds of applause to what we have achieved so far. We’re still a long way from our objectives.”
He acclaimed the symbolic and moral significance of the recognitions of Palestinian statehood but said their actual political weight remains weak as to the expectations of the Palestinian people.
“The Palestinian arena knows very well that the independence of any state is never the by-product of external recognitions; rather of the state’s real sovereignty,” Shaker confirmed.
Such recognitions are more of complimentary mechanisms and preliminary steps in the right direction, he added. (T/P011/R03)
