Duweik Calls on Abbas to Abide by Palestinian Constitution

Ramallah, MINA – Speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) Aziz Duweik has warned that any attempt to represent the Palestinian people through any means or entity other than the ballot box would be a coup against the principles of the constitution.

In a press release on Saturday, speaker Duweik stressed that the only legitimate way to represent the Palestinian people and build sound institutions is through holding fair elections, PIC reported.

He described the entire Palestinian political scene as a “minefield tending to explode,” especially as a result of exploiting Palestinian institutions to serve the interests of a certain group of people.

The speaker called on Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas to abide the provisions of the constitution and preserve the sovereign institutions whose work is governed by the Palestinian law.
