Arab FMs Form Panel to Counter Israeli Bid for UNSC Membership
Arab League to form a ministerial panel to rally international opposition to Israel’s bid to nominate for the UN Security Council non-permanent seat.
Cairo, MINA – Arab foreign ministers have assigned Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abul Gheit to form a ministerial panel to rally international opposition to Israel’s bid to nominate for the UN Security Council non-permanent seat for the 2019-20 term, KUNA repoted.
At the conclusion of their 148 regular meeting at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, the foreign ministers also urged the UNSC to put in place all UN resolutions related to the Palestinian cause.
They denounced the recent Israeli legislations to undermine chances for just, comprehensive and lasting peace in the Middle East as well as the Israeli illegal actions to extend its grip over the occupied East Jerusalem.
They encouraged world countries, UNSC permanent members to recognize the independent Palestinian state to safeguard the two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
The ministers reiterated support to the Arab peace initiative of 2002 to achieve comprehensive peace with Israel in return for the liberation of occupied Arab land.
They called for intensifying efforts to rally international support to the Palestinian indelible right of self-determination and independent state.
They stressed the need for pressing Israel to release all Palestinian prisoners and find a solution to the ordeal of Palestinian refugees.
The ministers urged the UNSC members to approve a full membership of the State of Palestine in the United Nations.
The ministers criticized the Israeli schemes to change the demographic characters of the occupied East Jerusalem and the encroachments against Muslim and Christian holy sites in the occupied city.
They approved the formation of a ministerial committee to study and deal with the Israeli infiltrations into the African continent. (T/RS5/RS1)
