Hundreds of Indonesian Hold Rally at UN Office in Solidarity with Hunger Striking Palestinians
Jakarta, 21 Sha’ban 1438/18 May 2017 (MINA) – Around 500 Indonesian Muslims have held rally in front of the UN Office here to show their solidarity with Palestinian hunger-striking prisoners in Israeli jails…
The rally, began at 11.00 am after they went to the Palestinian Embassy for similar purpose, was organized by Jamaah Muslimin (Hizbullah), a movement dedicated for world-wide Muslim unity, along with Aqsa Working Group (AWG) organization.
Participants including the youth and the elderly came from various places of Indonesia. The mass who planned to march to the UN office finally decided to use cars and busses.
“We decided to take buses to the UN Office after the police chief of local precinct reminded us that roads should be sterilized from pedestrians,” said the Head of Aqsa Working Group (AWG) Agus Sudarmadji to MINA in the Embassy of Palestine, today.
Aside from carrying Indonesian and Palestinian flags, many participants were holding posters with readings “free Palestinian prisoners”.
Since 17 April 2017, as much as 1500 Palestinian prisoners have gone on a hunger strike and only consumed salt water. They demand the fulfilment of their basic rights to the Israeli government, like having the access of family visits and do not impose administrative detention on them which is a violation of international human rights
The Israeli authorities haves detained around one million Palestinians since the one-sided establishment of the state of Israel in 1948.
Israel then took the West Bank, east of Al Quds, and the Gaza Strip in six-day war in 1967.
According to the human rights organization Addameer last march, as much as 6300 Palestinians are still detained in Israeli prisons.
Since 2006, Jamaah Muslimin (hizbullah) has shown its support to the Palestinian people and campaigning for the liberation of Al Aqsa in Indonesia and abroad.
The movement that is headed by an imam has organized numerous tabligh akbar, long marches, seminars and international conferences on the liberation of al Aqsa mosque.
Meanwhile Aqsa Working Group (AWG) is an organization that facilitates and organizes the muslim people for the liberation of al Aqsa mosque
AWG was established due to the decision made at the last meeting of al Aqsa international conference in Jakarta, on 20 Shaban 1429h/21 August 2008.
Since 2010 AWG has focused on distributing aids from the people of Indonesia, and during the 51 day of Israeli military aggression, the humanitarian organization distributed aids from the people of Indonesia to the victims of the brutal aggression.
Aid such as cash for orphans of the shaheed due to the Israeli aggression and basic needs were distributed to Gazans who lost their homes to the aggression.(L/NMT/RE1/RS5)
