Tangerang, 19 Sya’ban 1438/16 Mei 2017 (MINA) –  Volunteer Team Leader of the Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) Ichsan Thalib has said they want health services for Buddhists and Muslims of Myanmar to gather in one Hospital and not provided separately.

The hope is linked to the plans of MER-C and the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) to build a hospital in the village of Myaung Twe, Mra-U, Rakhine State, Myanmar.

The planned Indonesian hospital will be built in the neighborhood of the Buddhist and Muslim communities.

“Diplomacy through education has been running there, we (Indonesia) already has six schools there. With this health diplomacy, hopefully this will bring them together, “Ichsan told MINA at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten Province on Monday (15/5)

Based on his visit to Rakhine last year, Buddhists have one school and Muslims also one school.

“In the health sector, they are forced to mingle in one place. If in the field of education ,, they are still separated,” Ichsan said before flying with the team to Myanmar.

According to him, Myanmar is a country with the longest civil war in the world.

“With the construction of hospitals, hopefully they can imitate Indonesia and they learn a lot from us,” he said.

A year ago, he said, the response from residents around the land for the hospital was enthusiastic about this plan.

“We convey our aspirations and they are enthusiastic. Only Myanmar government efforts to prove that this unification effort exists, “he added.

The 20-bed, three-room ICU hospital will be built on a 4,000-square-meter plot of land, right on the edge of a river in Rakhine.

In mid-March, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi appointed Salman Al-Farisi, Expert Staff of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Institutional Affairs to become chairman of the liaison of all humanitarian agencies who want to assist in the achievement of this development mission.

The MER-C Presidium says that the development of an Indonesian hospital in Myanmar aims to unite the conflict-prone Buddhists and Muslims in the country. (L/R04/RS5)
