Israel Seals Ibrahim Mosque, Bans Muslim Worship

Hebron, MINA – Israeli soldiers sealed the Ibrahim Mosque and banned Palestinian Muslims from worshiping there on Monday. It was prepared for the arrival of Israeli settlers on the third day of the Yahudi holiday.

According to Ma’an News Agency, the mosque is believed to be burial site of sacred Prophet Ibrahim, both Muslim and Jewish, and become dispute and tension for decades.

The Holy Site is divided into two namely, a Jewish Synagogue or Ancestral Cave and a mosque after an American-born Israeli settler, Baruch Goldstein massacred 29 Palestinians in a mosque in 1994.

Since then, Palestinian Muslims have been forbidden to worship at Ibrahim’s Mosque during Jewish holidays on the pretext of avoiding chaos or violence.

Ibrahim Mosque is in the center of Hebron, which is the largest city in the occupied West Bank. Hebron or the Old City is divided into two, for Palestinian territories and Israeli controls known as H1 and H2.

Around 800 aggressive Israeli settlers now live in Hebron, under the protection of the Israeli army, which is also surrounded by more than 30 thousand Palestinians. (T/Sj/P2)
