Saudi Arabia Refuses US Recognition, Golan not Belongs to Israel

Riyadh, MINA – Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) strongly refused and condemned the declaration of recognition by the United States (US) government of the Golan Heights belong to Israel.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia affirms its firm position and has the principle that Golan Heights are occupied Syrian Arab land in accordance with relevant international resolutions and efforts to impose a fait accomply (do not change the facts).

“The United States Administration Declaration is a clear violation of the United Nations Charter and the principles of international law, as well as relevant international resolutions, including the Security Council resolution,” explained KSA statement as reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Tuesday.

KSA stressed that this would have a negative impact on the peace process in Middle East, regional security and stability and called on all parties to respect resolution of international legitimacy and Charter of the United Nations.

US President, Donald Trump has signed a decree formally recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over Golan Heights on Monday.

Golan Heights are the border areas annexed by Israel from Syria in the 1967 Six Day War. The United Nations has recognized Golan Heights as a Syrian territory.

In 2018, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution urging Israel to immediately withdraw its troops from the area. The resolution came after the country held local elections in the area on 30 October.

Meanwhile, other countries such as Russia, Syria, Iran, Turkey, have condemned the unilateral recognition of the United States. US allies such as France, Germany and Britain also refused to support US decision. (T/Sj/P2)
