Erdogan calls directly Myanmar’s de-facto leader, Au San Suu Kyi. Strictly speaking, Erdogan says that there has been a genocide in Rakhine State.

Ankara, MINA – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Burmese Prime Minister Aung San Suu Kyi spoke about the Rohingya crisis over the phone Tuesday, as Erdogan continues his diplomatic campaign to draw attention to the violence against the Muslim minority group.

In their phone conversation, Erdogan urged the need to avoid using unnecessary force that could cause civilian casualties, state-run Anadolu News Agency quoted Turkish presidential sources as saying.

The Turkish President noted that the entire Muslim world is extremely concerned over human rights violations committed against the Rohingyas, saying that Ankara supports all efforts to defuse the crisis.

Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu will travel to Bangladesh on Tuesday to hold talks with Bangladeshi officials over the violence in Myanmar.  (T/RS5/RS1)
