New York, 9 Rabi’ul Awwal 1437/20 December 2015 (MINA) – The world’s major powers agreed Friday on a draft UN Security Council resolution for the Syria peace process, diplomats said.

The 15-member Security Council is expected to adopt the draft text later Friday,  Anadolu Agency reports as quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA).

The draft resolution requests that the UN chief facilitate formal negotiations between the Syrian government and the opposition on a political transition in Syria as early as Jan. 16.

The agreement came during the third round of talks by International Syria Support Group in New York in order to foster a cease-fire and a political transition to end the Syrian civil war.
