PALESTINIAN NATIONAL COUNCIL TO HOLD EMERGENCY SESSION NEXT MONTH
Gaza, 7 Dhulqa’dah 1436/22 August 2015 (MINA) – The Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) is scheduled to meet in Ramallah tomorrow to determine the date and time of an emergency session of the Palestinian National Council in preparation for the election of new members of the Executive Committee.
In an interview with Quds Press, Wasel Abu Yousef, a member of the PLO Executive Committee, asserted that the committee will determine the date of the National Council’s session next month to re-elect the members of the Executive Committee, which requires that more than half of its members resign prior to the next session in order to call for an emergency session, Middle East Monitor (MEMO) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.
Abu Yousef said that the meeting, which will be held in Ramallah next month, is legal even if all the members who are outside the country are not able to attend.
The Palestinian National Council represents the supreme authority of the Palestinian people wherever they are located, whether inside Palestine or outside it. The National Council is the body which sets the PLO policies and draws its programmes. (T/P006/R04)
