OIC Condemns Ongoing Bombing of Civilian in Aleppo
Jeddah, 24 Dzulhijjah 1437/26 September 2016 (MINA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the constant bombing of civilians and the shelling of humanitarian aid convoys in Aleppo, Syria, KUNA reported.
OIC Secretary General Iyad Ameen Madani said in a statement, Monday, that the relentless pounding, slaughter, and destruction of humanitarian aid convoys amount to war crimes for which the Syrian regime should be held accountable.
Madani called on the international community, particularly the parties that pledged to impose an end to the bloodshed in Syria and consolidate the humanitarian cease-fire, to promptly step in to put an end to the ongoing killings and massacres in residential areas.
Furthermore, Madani discussed the deteriorating situation in Aleppo with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon as part of their bilateral meeting held in Ban’s office at the UN Headquarters on the sidelines of Madani’s participation in the ongoing 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
He stressed the need for the UN to move by virtue of its mandate and obligations as enshrined in the UN Charter in a bid to stem the flagrant violations of human rights in Aleppo. (T/R07/R01)
