MORSI’S DAUGHTER: ARMY LEADERS OFFERED MY DAD MONEY TO STEP DOWN

Shaimaa Morsi

Cairo, 22 Rajab 1435/21 May 2014 (MINA) – The daughter of Egypt’s ousted President, Mohammed Morsi, said on Monday that former defence minister, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and army leaders, before his ouster, offered her father political asylum in a state of his choice as well as other privileges and money in return for stepping down but he refused.

“Allow me to tell the world that you [the Egyptian army] offered the president asylum in a state of his choice and to give him and his family privileges and money in return for his resignation and leaving,” Shaimaa Morsi said in a post on her Facebook page as quoted by Middle East Monitor and Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA).

“But he turned down your offer, because he knows that this is a betrayal to God, Egypt and the Egyptian people who trusted him” she added.

Shaimaa continued “my father’s men have sacrificed their lives for Islam and Egypt and refuses to be traitors, to sell their land and honour and sacrifice money and privileges for the revolution, freedom, pride and dignity and gave the next generation lessons to learn on how to be men.”

Egypt’s former defence minister and presidential candidate, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said in a television interview yesterday that he and the army leaders attended Morsi’s last speech on June 26 last year, hoping to hear “solutions to end Egypt’s political crisis” but found that the President addressed only his supporters.

Al-Sisi announced Morsi’s  ousting on July 3, 2013, as he considered not able to meet Egyptian people demands on his administration a year after revolution.  But since Morsi was ousted and held in jail,  activists identified as anti-coup alliance  hold their routine protest to demand Morsi’s reinstatement and his release along with thousands other activists. (T/P03/E01)
