Malaysians Must Continue to Protest Oppression of Rohingya Muslims - OIC

OIC says Malaysia must continue to protest against the oppression of the Rohingya Mulims in Myanmar.

Shah Alam, 24 Rabiul Awwal 1438/24 December 2016 (MINA) – Malaysians must continue to play a proactive role in protesting against the oppression of the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, said a senior official of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Bernama reported..

OIC Special Envoy to Myanmar, Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar said this was neccessary in order to urge the Myanmar government to give citizenship to the Rohingya and to act against those who spread hatred and incite violence against the Rohingya.

“We want Myanmar to recognise the Rohingya as the ethnic group has the right and were recognised as part of the country’s population by the first president of Myanmar.

“Malaysia upholds human rights and does not want to see discrimination against any ethnic and need to continue the fight against the cruelty agianst the Rohingya,” he said at ‘Pray 4 Caring Ummah-Rohingya’ rally at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam, Friday night.

Also present was vice-president of International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

Syed Hamid said Malaysians should continue to fight for the rights of the Rohingya so that the humanitarian conflict that occur in Myanmar could be resolved quickly.

“The Myanmar government is belittling a minority in the country. The Rohingya has been denied the right to citizenship, forcing hundreds of thousands to flee Myanmar.

“We will fight for justice and will gather evidence to show to the international court of the crimes against humanity involving the Rohingya.”

Meanwhile, Abdul Hadi described the oppression of the Rohingya in Myanmar as very disappointing for Muslims around the world.

Abdul Hadi, who is also the PAS president, said due to the oppression, Malaysians must unite in addressing humanitarian issues in Myanmar.

“The world community regardless of religion must cooperate. What is happening in Myanmar is wrong and contrary to humanity,” he added. (T/RS05/RS01)
