Jokowi`s Statue in Hong Kong to Have Batik Outfit

President Jokowi’s wax statue at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong will wear batik.

Macau, MINA – The statue of Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the Madame Tussauds Wax Figure museum in Hong Kong will have its outfit changed, from his signature white button down shirt into one with a Batik print.

“The Batik shirt has been sent from the Presidential Palace, and it might replace the white shirt that is currently worn by the presidents statue in the museum,” Consulate General of Indonesia Tri Tharyat in Macau stated on Wednesday.

Other than that, the LED screen installed behind the presidents wax statue can also exhibit a number of seeded tourism spots in Indonesia.

The screen itself had been installed since Jokowis visit to the museum, at the Peak Tower complex, back on May 1.

During the summer break season, much like today, the museum receives dozens of visitors from the day until night.

The only one depicts incumber leader

The Madame Tussauds Museum has reportedly partnered with the Indonesian Consulate General to give 50 percent discount on ticket prices to Indonesian visitors.

The normal price to enter the museum, which exhibits wax statues of world-renowned figures from those in politics to the entertainment field, is at 265 Hong Kong Dollars, which is equal to about Rp450.5 thousand or US$33.90.

Indonesian visitors, however, can pay half of the fee to enter the museum by simply showing a coupon they can obtain from the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong.

“Ever since the instalment of Jokowis statue, the museum has received more and more visitors from Indonesia,” Tharyat revealed.

Jokowis statue is reportedly the only one in the museum that depicts an incumbent leader of an ASEAN member country.

It was recorded that the total of Indonesian tourist that had visited Hong Kong in 2016 reached 464,406 people, while for the first half of 2017, from January to June, a total of 248,253 Indonesians had visited Hong Kong, indicating a 15 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

The total of Hong Kong tourists who had visited Indonesia last year is recorded to only reach 90 thousand people. (T/RS5/RS1)
