Ramallah, MINA – Unilateral steps aimed at imposing Israeli control over settlements on Palestinian land will not alter the reality that settlements are illegal, the Palestinian Presidency stressed on Monday.

Any steps in this regard will only lead to further tension and instability, warned presidency spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudaina.

“We warn that such steps, if implemented, would eliminate all international efforts aimed at saving the political process,” he was quoted by Palestine News Agency, WAFA, as saying.

The Palestinian official’s remarks came in response to Israeli media reports that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the application of full Israeli control over the West Bank with the US administration.

Abu Rudaina underlined that no party has the right to discuss the status of Palestinian territories as this is a violation of international law and UN resolutions, which outline that territories occupied in 1967, including East Jerusalem, are Palestinian lands.

Netanyahu is said to be discussing these plans with his Likud party members.
Palestinians have, meanwhile, stressed this would represent aggression on the Palestinian people and their land. (T/RS5/RS1)
