ISRAELI FORCES SHOOT, KILL PALESTINIAN NEAR RAMALLAH
Ramallah, 15 Dzulqa’dah 1435/10 September 2014 (MINA) – Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian man in al-Amari refugee camp near Ramallah overnight, locals told Ma’an.
Locals said 22-year-old Issa Khaled al-Qatri was shot by Israeli troops in the chest around 5:00 a.m. and taken by car to Ramallah medical complex where medics pronounced him dead.
The victim was shot during clashes between young Palestinian men and Israeli soldiers, who stormed al-Amari camp and detained resident Alaa Jalayta from his home, the sources said, Maan News Agency quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting, Wesnesday.
Protesters “showered the invading forces with stones, and soldiers responded with live ammunition, injuring a number of other Palestinians,” one witness said.
Al-Qatri was preparing for his wedding which was to take place next week, the sources added.
An Israeli army spokeswoman said an Israeli army force entered al-Amari refugee camp overnight to arrest a “Hamas operative,” and was met with Palestinian “rioters.”
The Palestinians threw stones and molotov cocktails and rolled burning tires at the soldiers, she said.
One Palestinian attempted to hurl an “improvised explosive devise” at soldiers, who responded by opening fire at him. She could not confirm what kind of device it was.
“He was independently evacuated from the scene and later died of his wounds,” the spokeswoman said.
She added that “the Hamas operative was in fact arrested, with weapons in his possession.”
According to an Aug. 28 report by the PLO, 32 Palestinians were killed in the West Bank by Israeli forces in a two-month period beginning on June 13, during roughly the same time-frame as Israel’s seven-week assault on the Gaza Strip.
During the same period, 1,753 Palestinians were detained — an equivalent of 24 a day — while Israeli forces conducted 1,573 military raids across the West Bank, or an average of 21 a day. (T/P002/R03)
