Israel Shoots Down Drone with Patriot Missile over Golan — Army

Ramallah, 13 Syawal 1437/18 July 2016 (MINA) – Israeli Army on Sunday unleashed at least one Patriot missile knocking out an incoming drone humming over the Golan Heights, KUNA reported, quoting the Israeli Radio.

According to the radio, the pilotless aircraft was brought down when it was hit with the missile. aircraft that entered Israeli airspace from Syria on Sunday.

The radio also quoted military sources as speculating that the reconnaissance aircraft may be belonging to the Lebanese Hezbollah organization, which sent such aircraft into Israeli air space in the past.

Israel has often responded to errant mortar fire from the civil war in neighboring Syria on the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights with tank and mortar shells and with air strikes, but the use of Patriot anti-aircraft interceptor missiles is unusual.
