Indonesian Men’s Water Polo team Advances to Quarterfinals
Jakarta, MINA – The Indonesian men’s water polo team advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2018 Asian Games after defeating Hong Kong, China 11-8 in the last qualifying match of the men’s water polo at the Aquatic Center, Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday.
Ridjkie Mulia was the top scoring Indonesian with five goals, followed by Delvin Felliciano with two goals, and Zaenal Arifin, Reza Auditya Putra, Silvester Goldberg Manik and M Hamid Firdaus with one goal each, asiangames2018.id reported.
Ridjkie Mulia said at the beginning of the match the Indonesian team performed well. But performance levels dropped in the middle of the match as the players lost their concentration. However, they consolidated and won the match.
“For the next match, we’ll give our best and advance to the semis,” he said.
Speaking about his target, Ridjkie said hopefully Indonesia could sit in fifth position in the men’s water polo ranking of the 2018 Asian Games.
The quarterfinals will see the top four teams in Group A compete against the top four teams in Group B, with four teams advancing to the semifinals.
In the quarterfinal, Indonesia will meet Kazakhstan, who topped Group A, in a match at the Aquatic Center on Thursday (Aug. 30).(L/R04/RS5)
