Indonesian, Maroccan FM Discuss Palestinian Issue

Jakarta, MINA – Indonesian Foreign Minister (FM) Retno L.P. Marsudi received a visit from Maroccan FM, African Cooperation and Moroccans, Y.M. Nasser Bourita at Pancasila Building, Jakarta. Several issues were discussed during the meeting, including on Palestinian issue.

Specifically, related to the Palestinian issue, Retno said that a two-state solution was the only solution if we want to see sustainable peace.

“Morocco is an old friend of Indonesia and an important partner in the North African Region. Next year, we will celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations and I have proposed to commemorate the theme “INA-MAROC 60ing Forward,” Retno explained to reporters, after a bilateral meeting, according to a press release received by MINA on Tuesday, October 28.

In addition, they also discussed economic cooperation such as in halal sector, vaccine and pharmaceutical, energy, and infrastructure sectors.

In particular, Retno expressed the desire of Indonesian SOEs to be able to participate in infrastructure development projects in Morocco, such as roads and bridges, railroad, and housing projects. Therefore, she hope the Moroccan Government can provide facilities.

An invitation was also sent to Morocco to participate in the 2020 Halal Summit which will be held in Indonesia in November 2020.

Retno also stressed the importance of immediately starting PTA negotiations between the two countries in hope that existing tariff barriers in bilateral trade relations can be removed.

The arrival of Moroccan Foreign Minister is the first foreign minister’s visit to Indonesia, after Retno is again entrusted as Indonesian Foreign Minister in the second period. (L/Sj/P2)
