Indonesia to Hand Over Aid in Sittwe
‘Constructive engagement’ needed to help resolve Rakhine crisis, Says Indonesia FM.
Kuala Lumpur, 22 Rabiul Akhir 1438/21 January 2017 (MINA) – Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi will be in Sittwe Saturday to hand over the country’s humanitarian assistance to Rakhine State.
The aid was sent from Jakarta on Dec 29 and it has since arrived in Sittwe, the capital of Rakhine State, thestar.com quoted the minister as saying.
“I will also officiate two new schools built by Indonesia. In total, we have built six schools there and these are also open to the Buddhist community.
“Why do we do that? We want to send a clear message that we have to help Myanmar to help the community in Rakhine State by building a tolerant and harmonious step from the grassroots level.
“This is not the first time Indonesia had tried to assist Myanmar.
“Our collaboration and the capacity-building has been there for years,” she said.
The two countries wanted to strengthen its ties through capacity-building, cooperation, police, military and interfaith dialogues, she added. (T/RS05/RS01)
