Jakarta, 5 Muharram 1436/29 October 2014 (MINA) – Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi said she would develop and intensify foreign policies of Indonesia. One of them is the appointing of a honorary consul in Palestine following establishment of unified government there.

“We plan to appoint Honorary Consul of Indonesia in Palestine,” said Retno in a press conference at the Foreign Ministry Office, Jakarta, on Wednesday.

The former of Indonesian ambassador to the Netherlands confirmed Indonesia would continue supporting Palestinian struggle for independence from Israeli occupation. So far, Indonesia, both the government and the people committed to provide various assistance to the Palestinian people. “We will continue providing assistance”, she said.

Indonesia will increase its involvement on the world stage to participate in maintaining the world order based on the state constitution. Indonesia will also increase contributions of peacekeepers in the UN, she added.

She said there were about 1,500 Indonesian troops who have been taking part in maintaining peace in the world recently. The number would be increased by 2019.

Retno said the Foreign Ministry task ahead is to push the nomination of Indonesia as non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2019-2020. “It is our main diplomacy task in the future,” she said, accompanied by her working team. (L/R04/P009/P3)
