Beni, Congo – 7 Shawwal 1436/23 July 2015 (MINA) – Congolese Muslim woman Kismati Hassan, won first prize in a Qur’an recitation contest held on Friday at the Beni Islamic School in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)’s North Kivu region.
As the winner, Hassan (23) as one of 78 contestants will have the privilege of going to Makkah, Saudi Arabia on a pilgrimage funded by the Congolese Islamic Community (COMICO).
“I am happy to have won the contest because women like me often simply take care of their families at home,” she told Anadolu Agency.
Kurishidah Rashidi, (41) who won second prize, will take home $400, two bags of rice and a Qur’an. International Islamic News Agency quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA).

Other runners-up received hijabs, bags, Qur’an and small sums of money.
The competition is not only about Qur’an recitation, but also about focuses on the basic knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence.
“These prizes are meant to reward good learning of the Holy Qur’an despite the difficulties which these women must contend,” said COMICO representative Imam Sheikh Al-hadji Ali Amin.
“Some of them are married and have many domestic responsibilities, yet they were able to find the time to study during the Holy month of Ramadan,” he said. (T/Imt/NMT)
