BOMB ATTACK KILLS ONE, INJURES TWO IN NORTHERN EGYPT
Alexandria, 14 Rabi’ul Akhir 1436/4 February 2015 (MINA) – Police officials in Egypt say at least one civilian has been killed and two others wounded when a bomb explosion targeted a mobile security checkpoint in the North African country’s second largest metropolitan city.
The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the attack took place near a residential neighborhood on the western outskirts of the coastal city of Alexandria on Tuesday.
The explosion was aimed at a mobile security check post in the area, but it had already been moved before the bomb went off, Press Tv quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting. Wesnesday.
Three people were wounded in the act of terror, one of whom later succumbed to grave injuries. A 12-year-old boy was among those hurt in the blast.
Earlier on Tuesday, a bomb went off on a street in the capital, Cairo, close to iconic Tahrir Square the epicenter of the January 2011 revolution against long-time dictator, Hosni Mubarak without causing any casualties.
The bomb had been placed inside an electrical transformer. There were no immediate claims of responsibility for the two explosions.
Two sound bombs were also discovered and defused near a parking lot at Cairo International Airport. Security officials said one of them was found in a gift bag outside Terminal Three, while sniffer dogs discovered the other under a policeman’s car outside the terminal.
Officials tightened security at the airport following the discovery of the two bombs, and are reviewing video footage to determine who planted them.
