BMKG Predicts High Rainfall in Java’s Cities
Jakarta, MINA – The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicted high rainfall in Bandung and its surroundings with moderate to high intensity.
“The potential of the rain is at least end in February until the beginning of March with moderate and heavy intensity,” BMKG Meteorology Deputy Mulyono Rahadi Prabowo said in Jakarta on Sunday (1/13) as quoted by Republika.
Similar weather predictions will also occur in western Indonesia, especially south of the equator. Mulyono said that the area is still in the rainy season which is expected to enter a peak period in January or February 2019.
Mulyono said that intensity rainfall could also vary. He continued, considered the vast territory of Indonesia so that one place with another place could have a different impact.
However, BMKG could not predict the possibility of strong winds and tornadoes in an area. Likewise, the points that need to be aware of tornado which will cross in several places.
He said, a tornado occurrence is a micro-scale event. He continued, a tight observation network was needed to be able to detect areas that would be hit by the wind.
BMKG has been able to predict tropical cyclones that will occur in Indonesia. He said, tropical cyclones have a long life cycle compared to tornadoes which only occur in about two to three minutes in small areas of certain regions.
Furthermore, Mulyono equalize if a tornado is anchovy in a tropical cyclone. “The term is that if you want anchovy nets you can’t use nets for milkfish, like that,” he said again. (T/Ais/P2)
