Al-Tayeb Calls for Launching International Humanitarian Project to Spread Peace

Geneva, 29 Dzulhijjah 1437/30 September 2016 (MINA) – Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders has called for the launching of an integrated global humanitarian project to spread peace across the world and emphasise on citizenship and values of co-existence.

According to WAM, Dr. Al-Thayeb made the remarks while opening the third round of dialogue between the elders of the East and the West.

He emphasised that all condemnation statements issued by religions are no longer enough against acts of violence, terrorism, and hate speech.

Religions came to establish peace among the people, and terrorism does not differentiate between the religious and the atheist, or between a Muslim and non-Muslim, he said, and added that Muslims are paying the price of this terrorism more with their blood and their bodies.

“We meet today under critical conditions and moral crises experienced by our world in particular and humanity in general, noting that that love and peace values have become an exception to the rule that controls the world today which is based on selfishness, hatred and conflict,” he said.
