Jakarta, 6 Dhulhijja 1435/30 September 2014 (MINA) – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ speech in UN General Assembly recently on reaching Palestinian independence soon is not a dream but logic vision as it’s the unfinished Palestinian achievement, said Palestine ambassador to Indonesia Fariz Mehdawi.

“It’s  logic vision because we’ve been living under occupation for so long, it’s time to get our independence,” he  told Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA),  in Jakarta, Tuesday.

He said Abbas’ remarkable speech in the UN is one of the efforts to bring the end of the occupation and to get international recognition as a Palestinian state and become a full member of the UN.

“It’s not just Abbas dream, we’ve been discussed on it with all parties for so long, and it’s only our goal, but Israel existence blocks it,” he said.

He further explained that US-mediated peace negotiations with Israeli entity was “useless” as the US serves only Israeli interests.

“Negotiations ran with no direction, so our hope is with the UN, most of countries backs us, we can count on it,” he said.

In the  last Friday speech, Mahmoud Abbas has called on the United Nations Security Council to support a resolution setting a clear deadline for Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied territories as he in effect declared the US-sponsored Oslo peace process over.

In the hard-hitting speech to the UN General Assembly in New York, he also stated Israel has done war crimes and perpetrated genocide towards Palestinians  over the last decades.

“We will not forget and we will not forgive, and we will not allow war criminals to escape punishment,” Abbas declared. Palestinian officials were expected to start working with members of the Security Council to seek backing for a resolution setting a time frame for the ending of what he called the racist and colonial occupation.

In some of his strongest language to date, Abbas declared that the American-backed Israel-Palestinian peace process, which has dragged on for two decades, was dead, saying it was “impossible to return to negotiations”.

“There is no meaning or value in negotiations for which the agreed objective is not ending the Israeli occupation and achieving the independence of the state of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital of the entire Palestinian territory occupied since the 1967 war.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, in a speech to the U.N. General Assembly in New York, on September 26, 2014 demanded an end to Israeli occupation, telling the United Nations that the time for Palestinian independence had come and calling on the world community to support his bid for membership in the UN and for statehood, describing it as support for truth.(L/R04/R03/P3)
