Trump Claims Presidency, Calls on Americans “to Come Together as One United People”
Washington, 10 Safar 1438/10 November 2016 (MINA) – Donald Trump, who defied all elements of the US political establishment since announcing his candidacy in mid-2015, made a triumphant appearance at his New York City campaign headquarters on Wednesday morning, claiming the US presidency.
Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton telephoned Trump earlier and conceded the election, Trump confirmed.
“It is time for Americans to bind the wounds of division and get together,” Trump said. “It is time for us… to come together as one united people.” “I pledge that I will be president for all Americans, and this is so important to me,” KUNA quoted him a saying.
Trump said he wanted to “reach out and unify our great country. Ours was not a campaign, but an incredible and great movement … of people who want a bigger and brighter future for themselves and their familes. … of people of all races and backgrounds who want a government that serves the people — and serve the people it will.”
The president-elected pledged to “renew the American dream.” “It is going to be a beautiful thing,” he said.
“Everyone will have an opportunity to realize their fullest potential.” Trump said “the forgotten people of America will be forgotten no longer.”
He promised to rebuild America’s infrastructure, saying it will be “second to none.” Millions of American will be put to work rebuilding it, he said.
He also promised to take care of “our great veterans,” referring to US military veterans.
Trump said he would double US growth and create “the strongest economy in the world.” He also said the US would “get along with all countries as long as they want to get along with us.” “America will no longer settle for anything less than the best,” he said.
The country will dream “big, bold and daring,” and will seek “partnership, not conflict.” Vice presidential-elect Mike Pence took the podium first with his family, proclaiming a “historic night. The American people have spoken and elected their new champion.”
From real estate entrepreneur, reality star to US president
Before winning the 2016 election, Donald Trump was primarily recognized as a real estate magnate, reality TV star, and a member of the New York City elite. He has now expanded his deep connections and exhaustive career into a new frontier, the White House.
Trump, 70, was born in Queens, New York and was the fourth of five children. His father, Fred Trump worked as a affluent property developer who focused primarily on residential apartments.
At age 13 Trump was sent to New York Military Academy and later graduated in 1968 from the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in economics.
While in college Trump obtained education deferments to prevent him from being drafted into the Vietnam War and later received a medical deferment to protect him after he graduated.
Once he obtained his degree, Trump began working for his father’s company, Elizabeth Trump & Son, where he shifted its focus to using more loans based on equity.
After Trump was given control of the company in 1971 he renamed it the Trump Organization. His turning point of success that would spawn his future self-proclaimed empire was when he received a USD 1 million loan from his father.
With this money he formed a deal to construct the Grand Hyatt hotel in 1978 near New York’s Grand Central station.
Trump continued to elevate his business and become the chairman of what is today known as The Trump Organization which encompasses facilities such as office buildings, hotels, casinos, and golf courses.
From 1996 to 2015 America’s president-elect owned part of if not all of several beauty pageant competitions such as Miss Universe and Miss USA. He sold his shares of the organization after television networks NBC and Univision ended their relationship with him because of his comments against Mexican immigrants.
The mogul also created what was called Trump University a for-profit education company that existed from 2005 until 2010.
The institution offered classes in real estate, asset management, entrepreneurship, and wealth creation that cost up to USD 35,000 per course. Trump University came to a close after a series of lawsuit which argued that it made false claims and defrauded consumers.
Trump used his name to brand other projects where he sold items such as water that he called “Trump Ice.”
The entrepreneur continued to use his rising global recognition and expanded his brand and personality by appearing in a variety of movies, TV shows, wrestling events, and interviews.
His greatest media venture was as executive producer and host of The Apprentice which ran 14 seasons on NBC. Contestants were judged based off of their ability to conduct various business tasks in which the winner would receive a large sum of money and a contract to lead one of Trump’s companies.
