Hamburg, Germany, 11 Jumadil Awwal 1436/2 March 2015 (MINA) – German city of Hamburg has officially announced its recognition of the festivals of the Muslims, which will enable the Muslim community to get their official holidays of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, starting from 2016.

This decision, which has been welcomed by the representatives of the Muslim community in Bhamberg, comes after tough negotiations lasted for over five years between the Local German authorities and the German Islamic Council, headed by Ayman Maziak who was demanding to grant holidays for Muslims to celebrate their festivals.

It is noteworthy that with this decision, Hamburg will be the first city in Germany and in Europe who officially recognizes the holidays for Muslims,  International Islamic News Agency (IINA) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

Hamburg, Germany’s second biggest city with a 1.8-million strong population, has some 130,000 Muslims. (T/P007/P3)
